Recently there has been speculation on the idea that SFU could host BC's second medical school. This comes as good news to everyone in the SFU community, as well as the Vancouver area itself, as this would mean more local infrastructure, which would allow us to meet our ever increasing demand for doctors and specialists. This also presents itself as a great way for the school to plan and develop for the upcoming future, expending its influence as a university.
There still is the matter of who would be signing the massive cheque that would be required to fund such a large addition to the school. Although some may say it to be optimistic to think of such a large project to be undertaken in the near future, I do think it presents itself as the next step forward for the school and a necessary one for the school to grow and prosper. I can make a good assumption that SFU-MED wont be a reality when I am a student, but expect to see development of this expansion within the next decade.
